Postby Hermann Gustav on 21 Oct 2010 09:42

Hello,

Im working on my project about 18-th saxon freikorps in Lithuania which did very important role in the Lithuanian indepence fights against bolseviks. And get same problem and i hope to found here the answer. I cant find any information and literature about: Major von Zechau, Oberlt. Ludovici, Major Spranger, and Schröder. Lithuanian special archyve have very poor information about saxons freikorps in Lithuania. And one more thing very importat, need information about soldiers of saxons freikorps which get Order of the Cross of Vytis.

Herrmann Gustav,

I think you may be looking for one of three officers names von Zeschau, Ernst a Hauptmann in Gren.Rgt. 101 in 1914, Karl a Major and adjutant on the staff of XII. Armeekorps or Adolf a Major and adjutamt on staff of the 24. Div.

Egon Ludovici was in IR 106 at the beginning of the war.

Hans Spranger was an Oberleutnant in Feldart.Rgt. 68

There are two officers named Schröder who could be the one you are looking for:
Otto, a Hauptmann in IR 103 or Severin, also a Hauptmann in IR 103.

Hermann Gustav,

The information came from the 1914 Saxon Rangliste (Rangliste der Sächsischen Armee)- which was an annual publication published by the Saxon Ministry of War each year and listed all the officers in the Saxon Army, to include active, reserve and Landwehr. The are very useful and you can find them on the internet.
