Looks good! Unfortunately I have to postpone ordering online, since the mail service is refusing to deliver mail. This comes after them being forced back to work.

I have some vehicles I need identifying as well. These trucks have Toyota style wheels but canvas tops like the Isuzu Type 94. What are they?

Thank you Taki! I found a forum thread with lots of vehicles, including old brochures. These two are unknown types. What do you think? http://reibert.info/threads/japonskij-a ... oj.298112/

The top is Hijiri truck from Hijiri Motorcar Company and the bottom is Rokko truck from Kawasaki Sharyo Company.

Before WWII, there were many small motorcar companies in Japan. They are trucks from them.

Thanks Taki! Two more questions
1. Is Rokko (六甲) the brand that Kawasaki produces? On the left it is "passenger cars" (乘用車) and on the right is 卜ラツク which I don't know in English.
2. Is this brand "Kiso" (キソ)? I have never heard of it.

It seems so.

Truck

2. Is this brand "Kiso" (キソ)? I have never heard of it.

It is the name of bus. Kiso was made by the motorcar department of Toyota Industries Corporation, which became Toyota Motor Corporation.

Thank you. I listed some brands below with history.

Atsuta Produced under the Chuyko Detroit Project which considered of several companies including Toyoda Loom Company. Two protoypes were made in 1932. Not sure how many were produced but the vehicle was extremely expensive compared to imports.

Denka Not sure who build this. Possibly a division of Denki Kaguku Kogyo Co. Ltd. (or DENKA K.K.) which was established 1915.

Datsun Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works (est.1911) merged with Jitsuyo Jidosha Co. (est.1919) in 1926 to form DAT Jidosha Seizo Co. (DAT Automobile Manufacturing Company). This eventually became a subsidiary of Tobata Casting K.K. in 1931. At the same time it started producing cars with the name Datsun. Tobata Casting sold DAT to Ishikawa and then partnered with Nippon Sangyo K.K. to establish Automobile Manufacturing Co. in Dec.1933, where in June 1934 it became Nissan Motor Co.

Chiyoda-Sumida Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding & Engineering started producing vehicles independently in 1927 and the name Sumida first appeared on a 1929 model.

Isuzu In the same year that the "Sumida" appeared, the Car Department was split off from Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding & Engineering and established as an independent company named Ishikawa Automotive Works Co., Ltd. In 1933 (or 1932?) the demand for vehicles increased and "Isuzu" was launched. Ishikawa Automotive Works merged with DAT Automobile Manufacturing Co. in 1933 to establish a new company called Automobile Industries Co., Ltd. Finally in 1937, Automobile Industries merged with Tokyo Gas & Electric Co. to establish Tokyo Automobile Industries Co., Ltd which is now modern day Isuzu.

Japan Diesel No Information

Kyosan No Information

Nikko No Information

Ohta Was first established in 1922, but didn't mass produce cars until 1934, it was later bought by Kurogane in 1957.

Tsubuka Manufactured by Tokyo Jidosha Seizo which was established in 1934. 130 cars were made before Tokyo Jidosha Seizo was forced to close due to new the new Automobile Manufacturing Industries Law.

Hi Taki and Luftflotte 2.

I would like to ask your help to positively identify the Datsun double cabin truck shown in the two images below.

After hours of searching, I can only find these two images. It is for sure a Datsun and I personally believe it is a Type 16 from 1937 but it could also be a Type 15 from 1936. I have no idea if it was a prototype or if it was produced in limited numbers.

One thing for sure, if there is one still in existence, I would pay a good price for it!!!!!!!

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Bill

Datsun first made a pickup truck in 1953. Above photos are on it.

Japan Motorcar Museum has it. But, they will not sell it at any price.

Hi Taki:

I cannot thank you enough for your help, you are a true AHF Friend!!!!!

I now have much more information on the truck than I ever thought I would get plus so much more from the ameblo website and others found here on this thread. I spent an hour on ameblo going back to their very beginning and it was a very worthwhile journey.

Too bad that the example truck is in the Japan Motorcar Museum, as you say it will never be sold.

Thanks again for your valuable assistance. I will post later today or tomorrow some interesting Japanese WWII car and truck photos I have found lately.

Bill
