Iwo Jima documents
Hello, bought these items and a few indicators tell me they came from Iwo Jima. Any truth to that? Were these captured on Iwo Jima? One of the documents mentions "Higashi Unit" which I thought was interesting. Any help would be wonderful! Thank you!
Re: Translation Requests
it is written on the other side of notification paper 'Ogasawara, regulated item, Iwojima Vegetable Co-op' in red.
Mostly unreadable, but 東地区隊(East district Unit) is clear. It referred to independent infantry 314th battalion, a platoon from independent 1st mortar battery and some navy men. Dated 昭一九.九.一九=19 Sep 1944.
I am not sure but it might read 戦備練度表=equipment and experience chart. The unit leader' s direction in advance for landing, by three grades of combat-readyness. Left half seemed communication rule by signal pistol or smoke.

Re: Translation Requests
Thank you so much Hisashi-San! My suspicions have been confirmed! I saw a lot pointing towards Iwo Jima which is why I had to ask. The grouping had a few letters which seem to mention military a few military words. What does the letter below say? This one had the most military related material in it. Thank you so much!
Re: Translation Requests
It seemed a letter from a soldier to his wife Mitsuru (rare as a female name) and his mother. Appreciating their previous cheering letter, he said there were many 22 or 23-years-old soldier but he was nearly 40. Asking good care for children (and mother) to Mitsuru, he added he sent 120 yen (from his salary) to them.
Re: Translation Requests
Hello all,
I am looking for confirmation that the kanji in the location/address box on this Post Office savings book is for the IJN carrier Ryujo. Is this correct? Were all vessels within the IJN marked with the Gunkan kanji regardless of their designation? Any help with this is greatly appreciated, thanks!

History of financial system is generally beyond the sight of military buff. Yokohama Chokin Shikyoku (横濱貯金支局) meant the aerial center of Post Office savings. Satellite post office was not used to financial treatment so until recent reform Chokin Shikyoku worked as a bank branch (in paper) for all users in neighbor PO.

Seeing collections in the above site, in WWII, army soldiers finally used tsushogo (char plus number), while in old example they used unit name directly (** division ** unit). So it seemed rather old style for crew on CV 龍驤 (Ryujo, written as 竜驤). I guess in books issued later Ryujo was indicated with navy postal code, イ壱七壱.

Re: Translation Requests
Very hard to read.
Right-most line reads 為高井聖一郎君(For 高井聖一郎, Mr.Takai Seiichiro or Shoichiro)
Second line looked the second half of a phrase
両頭倶截断 一剣倚天寒
Ryoto tomoni setsudansureba / Ikken tenni yorite susamaji
'Cut off both end of ill indeterminancy. [Then] your sword by the astral power get fierce.'
A phrase given by a Zen monk to a famous Samurai leader Kusunoki Masashige.
Third line must be a signature of writer = presenter but I cannot read.
Last name would be a co-presenter, XX第二部長= director of second XX department, name unreadable. XX might be 保険= insurance, so the soldier Mr.Takai and the last man, Takai's boss, were working in bank, insurance company or agency.

Re: Translation Requests
Can someone please translate these for me? One is a cover to a journal from a Japanese Officer, the other is one of the pages inside.
