Re: Translation Requests
Can anyone translate these two names? TIA for any help!
繼一
間覚郁男

Re: Translation Requests
繼一 is an old font for 継一, kei-ichi, seemingly the first name.
郁男 is (usually, as always) Ikuo, but for 間覚 I surrender. I found no man with family name 間覚 but 間覚郁男, a name related to escort ship Ukuru. In this extreme case, I must reserve for misprint/misspell of original material. Even JDL-OPAC, a database of books ever written since Meiji era and any magazine article in a few decades, I cannot find any person of that surname.

Re: Translation Requests
Hello, I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to translate a section of a wounded Japanese soldier I.D card I have. An example of the same type of card was posted and translated here by another member.
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... unded+card
The photo I have attached contains the specific information for the soldier it was issued to and I would greatly appreciate knowing what it says.
Kind regards

Re: Translation Requests
It's a 'purple heart', wounded/sick soldier's certificate.
Your example indicate 甲種 while Laurence Strong's pic reads 乙種 before serial. 甲種(something of 'type A') meant the injury/sickness was at war, and 乙種('type B') was for those in service, but not related to war. The other side in Laurence Strong's pic reads 'The bearer of wounded soldier's medal shall have this document together (to ascertain he is qualified)'.
His first name is rare, so it's specuration that he was retired army infantry corporal, MAMIYA Kesaji, born in 20 Jan 1908.

Re: Translation Requests
Hisashi, thank you so much! I had to crop the original picture into two because of the file size. I have attached the second part. I would appreciate your input on this as well.

Re: Translation Requests
Hisashi, thank you for taking the time to have a look at this. I hope to research this further after it is translated. I noticed this morning that there is more info on the reverse right side of the card. I thought it was the standard info given like on Lawrence's card, but I was mistaken. Any help is appreciated.
Kind regards

Re: Translation Requests
支那事変 refers to the part of continual collision and war, de facto war 1937-(1945). His wound was on the combat in Jiangxi, detailed location name do not match in the latest name search. He suffered through-and-through bullet wound on his right neck and right shoulder. The leftmost line shows the classification of pension applied to him.
Re: Translation Requests
Hisashi, thank you once again you have been very helpful. The gentleman who sold it to me said that it was hard to read and to get a second opinion, but seemed to think the name was Mamiya, kesaharu and was wounded in wujia jaingxi. Is this a possibility?
Kind regards
Kind regards
Re: Translation Requests
wujia (呉家) is exactly where I cannot find any location in Jaingxi province (江西省).

Re: Translation Requests
飛奈(Tobina) is a rare but known family name. Then 角蔵 must be Kakuzo.
