Steen is right. But on the pic he was referred as MajGen, CO 38th infantry regiment. Apparently it was just after he was promoted to MajGen and moved to CO 37th infantry brigade in 1937, but was still memorized by the previous appointment.
He was KIA in 1939 in mid-china as the CO 15th infantry group, 15th division, and posthumously became a LtGen.

On the second pic, indicated as 昭11年=1936, Toji inon the right end, but he was still a colonel. Next person was simply explained as 'artillery colonel' . The next LtGen was 中岡弥高 Nakaoka Yataka. He was an artillery officer but he went to reserve in 1935. I have no idea what was the celemony.

The third pic's memo reads '1 Jan 1939'.

Hi there, posting this for Aus, who needs help registering for the site.

The second photo with letters:

奈良 歩兵第三十八連隊長
Nara Colonel of 38 Infantry Regiment
陸軍少将 田路朝一(とうじ ともいち)
Army Major General Toji Tomoichi

Fourth photo,

昭11年
(meaning) 11th year of Showa

中央 陸軍中将 中岡弥高(なかおか やたか)
(though "taka" was written in katakana there)
Middle Army Lt. General Nakaoka Yataka
右2 歩兵大佐 田路朝一
Right 2(meaning 2nd from the right) Infantry Colonel Toji Tomoichi
右 砲兵大佐
Right Artillery Colonel (No name)

Last one of a soldier:

昭和十四年
1939
一月元日
January 1st

*I found Lt. General Nakaoka's name here,
http://page7.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/g144111187
3 letters written by 2 people incl Nakaoka.
Also, wikipedia

*VJK wrote Post Number:#1423
"Toji Asaichi" but that furigana DOES read "Tomoichi".
I assume that was written by someone who knew him.

What would be the most likely reading of this name 徳久捨馬 (Major General, class 17)? Would anybody be willing to give an educated guess?

TIA
Kind Regards

Hello, this flag belonged to a Major General Matsui Katsuji. He was commander of the Hiroshima fortress in 1933, but where did he end up after that? Thank you

1. Naval captain
加藤勲 was introduced in the caption as 'main trainer'. 加藤勲 Capt.Kato Isao (maybe) was an accounting(shukei) officer and was once a trainer in navy shukei school. Perhaps the owner of the pic was one of his pupil in navy shukei school.

2.one more naval captain.
青木泰二郎 Capt.Aoki Taijiro was introduced as CO, Tsuchiura naval air group. He was well known as the skipper CV Akagi in Midway.

3. Superior private
Jotohei 渡辺玄二郎 Watanabe Genjiro, 23 years old, taken in Feb 1921

Hi Roman,

I suspect that KATO Isao (加藤勲) is actually Rear Admiral (Paymaster) KATO Nobuo (加藤 信夫) - see here: http://homepage2.nifty.com/nishidah/e/pp01.htm#03r002

Kind regards,

VJK

Hi Valdis,

Thank you, :) yes, possibly, he could be Kato Nobuo. I just have checked the Fuller's book regarding admirals, but i did not find the date when he got promoted to captain in order to date the photo.

Hi Roman,

If you look at the site I quoted, you'll see that he was promoted to Captain (Paymaster) on 1 Dec 1936.

Kind regards,

Valdis

Hi Valdis,

Sorry i have missed that rank column in the table... late evenings :?

Thank you very much for clarification :D .

I have more photos in my collection, i did not find these generals in the thread regarding their identification.

Maybe the writings on the back will help. Please help with the translation.
