A thought keeps nagging at the back of my mind.
One of the attributes of the BT tank was its ability to run on its wheels. Track wear was (and is) a constant problem for tankies.
Khalkin Gol is over 500km from the nearest railhead.
Did the Soviets conduct non tactical moves on wheels, and in particular, their approach to Khalkin Gol on wheels?
Anyone out there with any knowledge (or thoughts) on the subject?

The tank shown is an IJA Type 89 version Ot Su, I think.

I shoul perhaps have said that the tank in the first and second photos are Type 89s.
The last photo is a soviet BT, but I cannot see enough detail to be certain if it is a 5 or a 7: The armoured car is an FAI.
The fact of the apparent capture of these vehicles, and that the japanese troops had the tine to gather for a group photo suggests that the date is early July '39.
