Here is the Model 2 as compared to the UZI, again another image-shack photo.

Perhaps it might be best to inquire about the owners of these guns here:

Some pics of the Type 100's Bayonet.

Taki, on your website, you mention "SNLF soldiers equippied with a Bergmann SMG were very effective in the battle of the Shanghai Incident" (http://www3.plala.or.jp/takihome/smg.htm#Bergmann), do you know how the SMGs were deployed in that battle? Were there dedicated SNLF SMG units or were the weapons spread relatively evenly across the SNLF units that participated?

Not particular unit, but general SNLF infantry units. Before Shanghai Incident, IJN imported about 320 Bergmann SMGs. They were deployed at 1st (China) Expeditonary Fleet and Shanghai SNLF.

Someone has already asked about that mysterious Chinese SMG:

I myself have also seen that kind of SMG in a museum in Jinggangshan(see the attachment).

Is there any idea of how many mp 18s and mp 34s the Japanese bought and used in total during the war?

According to the following page, IJN had approx. 6,000 SMGs imported from Europe in the last WWII.

But, note that IJN seldom used imported SMGs in the late Pacific War. It will be because their ammunition was not available in Japan.
