Here is a news photo from the Mukden incident. I think the trucks are made by Ford, not sure on the cars.

Hi Luftflotte2,
I think the cars are Buicks which were produced in Japan under license in the '30's.

Do you know which company built these under license?

That was my recollection, which I now can't document. More than likely I was thinking of an import/export deal with GM rather than a manufacturing subsidy. The cars in your photo are definitely '32 Buick Phaetons though!

A great looking car! I think this truck reads REO on the front, but I'm not sure on the model. The aircraft is a Ki-9.

Before WWII, there was GM Japan and it produced (actually only assembled importing parts) GM cars like Chevrolet, Buick etc. in Japan.

Chevrolet produced in Japan

Hi Luftflotte,
I'm not convinced thae truck is a REO, although it may well be. The logo does not look like the classic REO logo of that era, and when enlarged it looks to me more like -oEo-. It bears further research though.

Hi again Luftflotte2,
Having said all that I just located this pic of a 1934 REO Speedwagon dump truck which looks identical to the tanker you posted right down to the radiator badge! Nice work on your ID. This is not the first time I've eaten crow, it's actually not all that bad once you get used to it!

Thanks for identifying it! I felt like the symbol was designed to be symmetrical so the 'R' was stylized to match an 'O'!

This is a Nissan 180 fire engine in Yokosuka. The two tone camouflage is neat, not something you see often.
