Re: Aircraft Unit Identification
Actually I have a question! Why do some aircraft of Hamamatsu Flight Training Division have stripes and others have a number?
Anyway here is a Ki-67 of the 1st Chutai, 74th Bomber Sentai. Based at Obihoro, May 1945. The first Chutai hat the numbers 100-199.

Actually I have answered my own question. Hamamatsu Flight Training Division aircraft were assigned numbers from 1944 onwards, before that they used stripes.Luftflotte2 wrote:Actually I have a question! Re: Aircraft Unit Identification
7th Bomber Sentai Ki-67s.
From Spring 1944 to the end of the war the 7th Sentai had a code of 7- and..
numbers 01-30 =1st Chutai
numbers 40-60 =2nd Chutai
numbers 70-90 =3rd Chutai
1. 7-60 so its from the 2nd Chutai
2. same aircraft
3. tail code 7-77 so its from the 3rd Chutai, also note the small yellow stripe on the tail. Taiwan, 19th of Novmber 1944.

Re: Aircraft Unit Identification
Ki-67s again from the 7th Bomber sentai, same source.
1. Some aircraft of the 7th Bomber Sentai formed the Fugaku Tai To-Go, a special attack group. This special ki-67 (Ki-167 "Sakura-dan") is equipped with a thermite bomb of 2,900 kg (6,400 lb). This aircraft was one of only two made. So not all aircraft of Fugaku special attack group used the Ki-167.
2. This aircraft was subject to a colour plate which says this aircraft was of the the first Chutai which had a red colour tail tip. But now it has been transferred to the 2nd Chutai hence the blue stripe below and the numbers 7-56. This aircraft was based at Katori, Chiba Prefecture, January 1945.
3. First Chutai

Re: Aircraft Unit Identification
Apparently the 951st Kokutai again as on page 2.
This photo is from a forum I can't remember, the picture is originally taken by an American photographer (navy I think).

Re: Aircraft Unit Identification
I'd would like to know the ID of this unit, which apparently has retained Ki-27s till the end of the war.
Again from the forum I can't remember

Re: Aircraft Unit Identification
If the photo was taken in 1945 I would guess a training unit.
