Did Japanese Artillery often use smoke rounds?
It appears as though the Type 89 Grenade Discharger and most artillery guns had smoke rounds available, but were the smoke rounds often used?
Japanese Artillery use of smoke
Re: Japanese Artillery use of smoke
JACAR C14020496700 shows a munition supply status report from 14th army (Philippine) in 14 Mar 1942.
Smoke charge was stored only for mountain gun (type 41 and 94) and field gun (modified type 38). For example they had 102836 HE shell and 5000 smoke shell for modified type 38 field gun after resupplied (50000 HE and 5000 smoke) this month.
So they had them, and used them, but the supply seemed limited.

Re: Japanese Artillery use of smoke
There are reports of the Japanese using smoke at Shanghai and Nanjing in 1937. On some occasions this apparently caused panic in Chinese ranks, as it was mistaken for gas attacks
