Thanks! Might you have exact dates for the assignments up to the end of the war?

Sorry, that's all the information I could find which is disappointing considering his successful career in the JMSDF. I don't even know his rank when the war ended but I suspect it was probably Lieutenant Commander.

His older brother Itaya Shigeru (57th Class) was a squadron commander on Akagi during the Pearl Harbor operation. He was later killed in action.

Wish the JACAR archives were available entirely in English!

They are working on it hit and miss but I am afraid that as a septuagenarian I will not be around to see it completed. There are probably better references than JCAR available for biographies of Imperial Japanese Flag and General officers. These books are all in Japanese (prices vary from the reasonable to the absurd) but may be easier to puzzle out for non-Japanese readers. Overlooked sources in English are ATIS publication No. 2 which is a translation of the Japanese 1942 Army Directory (every officer on active duty) and the MID Japanese Bio Cards at NARA. The latter consists of six linear feet of data about everything known about every Japanese officer identified by the allied military intelligence during the war.

Of course, much depends on exactly what your goal is.

Basically just the listings of most senior postings on every major vessel (CO, XO, Gunnery, Engineer, etc.). Shoot me your email in a PM and I'll send you what I'm working on so you have an idea what I mean.
