Hi Steen and VJK,

well the reason for me to start this thread is to expose my findings to other opinions and fix my mis-IDs and name confusion. If it serves generals.dk as well that's even better. I never would have come so far without the help of that site and i thought it's easier to follow this thread than posting a lote here http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 5&start=75.

Do you guys have opinions about the three generals from ebay.com i posted? Those were not ID'd and i added my opinion only.

As for the mystery-man: he's saved now and maybe we'll find in the future. The reason why IDing german officers is so easy is that there are thousands of images of them in various situations. Sadly Italy and Japan receive way less interest.

@VJK: Isa Kazuo LG.jpg seems to be Kashiwa Isao http://www45160u.sakura.ne.jp/DB/%E6%9F%8F%E5%BE%B3

Two from the lost site:

Matsumura,Tomokatsu
Nakajima,Tetsuzo
Ishii Yoshio 2 (with US Brigadier Warren H. Mcnaught). source: http://www.awm.gov.au/collection/P02482.018/

Hi Matteus,

The hiragana writting かしわ とく gives his name as Kashiwa Toku - One of those I have to change on my site.

Hi Steen,

simply click on the images. Often even Japanese sites name the .jpegs with latin letters.

both images have a Toku in the website i linked so Kashiwa Toku seems to be correct indeed, same goes for Ogisu RIppei/Ry(u)uhei.

Many thanks Matteus for correcting me over Isa Kazuo, it is indeed Kashiwa Toku. As far as the 3 Generals you posted, your IDs would seem to fit, certainly I agree 100% about Takamori.

Kind regards,

VJK

thanks VJK, i'll have to find a way to get rid of these watermarks now.

another one, not 100% sure: i noted that he was an Lieutenant General, promoted to LG in 1939, last name Yoshida and somehow involved in armoured warfare. Yoshida Shin is what i wrote down, but the only Yoshida i found on generals.dk is http://www.generals.dk/general/Yoshida/Isao/Japan.html Yoshida Isao. Can these letters also mean "Shin"?

image attached, source is the lost site, i'm prety sure about that one.

and another one of
Hirabayashi Morindo (Morihito?) source: http://www.shimintimes.co.jp/yomi/kyakko/kyakko47.html

Hi Matteus,

Yes, Yoshida Isao is actually Yoshida Shin (よしだ しん) (吉田 悳).

Hi VJK,

i find this strange, because he doesnt really look like him? i have several images of Okamura, never saw him with a moustache...

meanwhile i found an interesting one here: http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/japanese- ... ns-378309/ showing Tsutsumi Mikio and Kaba Atsushi.

as for kaba i think i have found one here: http://www.geocities.jp/bane2161/kihei3ryodan.htm

is it the same person?

Kind regards,
Matteus

EDIT: maybe this one

could be Tsuchihashi Kazutsugu http://generals.dk/general/Tsuchihashi/ ... Japan.html?

Hi Matteus,
I have several pics purporting to show Okamura Yasuji with a moustache - it seems as if he might have shaved it off after receiving his third star (all my pics without moustache are with him as full General).

with moustache
Okamura Y: cannot now find the source
Okamura Y1: http://bbs.big5.voc.com.cn/archiver/tid-2300420.html
Okamura Y9: http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/nakamushyh/34067180.html

without moustache
Okamura Y2: http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/naomoe3/folder/1516845.html
Okamura Y6: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%B2%A1% ... 7%E6%AC%A1

As regards Kaba Atsushi, yes, they are one and the same. As to Tsuchihashi, the small pic is definitely him, but the portrait unfortunately is not named.

Kind regards,

VJK

Hi VJK,

thanks for the confirmations. As for Okamura, i completely forgot the image of the Shanghai surrender i posted earlier:
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 0#p1885450 EDIT: seems that i did not count stars and confused the two! :D

Tsuchihashi: is there a chance you have a better image of him?

Hi Matteus,

Unfortunately a good pic of Tsuchihashi has proved to be elusive so far... One lives in hope, however.

Perhaps I could use this opportunity to pass on my „wish list” for pics of the following Army Commanders:

Hada Shigekazu (波田 重一) - 5th Army
Harada Uichiro (原田 宇一郎) - 2nd Air Army
Katamura Shihachi (片村 四八) - 15th Army
Kobayashi Nobuo (小林 信男) - 54th Army
Kuno Seiichi (久納 誠一) - 22nd Army
Nagatsu Sadashige (永津 佐比重) - 13th Army; 58th Army
Nakazawa Mitsuo (中沢 三夫) - 40th Army
Seki Kameji (関 亀治) - 20th Army
Shigeta Tokumatsu (重田 徳松) - 52nd Army
Shimizu Noritsune (清水 規矩) - 5th Army
Uemura Seitaro (上村 清太郎) - Western Army
Washizu Kohei (鷲津 鉱平) - 4th Army

Kind regards,

VJK

Regarding Tsuchihashi Kazutsugu then the correct name should be: Tsuchihashi Ichiji (ツチハシ イチジ).

My mistake.
