Hi,

The translations of 和知 鷹二 and わち たかじ both come up with Wachi Takaji, which is why I came to that conclusion. But as you say, the lost site must have had some good reason for using Yoji, so who knows?
As regards Miyazaki, what makes you think it may be Nagai? The text clearly indicates Miyazaki, but as we know, you can't always rely on that. :(

Kind regards,

VJK

I think the only confirmed image of both was taken during the surrender ceremony on the USS Missouri in 1945.

source: http://www.maritimequest.com/warship_di ... page_3.htm
Front row;
Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu (top hat)
General Yoshijiro Umezu, Chief of the Army General Staff.

Second row;
Major General Yatsuji Nagai
Katsuo Okazaki (Foreign Ministry)
Rear Admiral Tadatoshi Tomioka
Toshikazu Kase (Foreign Ministry)
Lt. General Suichi Miyakazi

Third row;
Rear Admiral Ichiro Yokoyama
Saburo Ota (Foreign Ministry)
Captain Katsuo Shiba (Navy)
Colonel Kaziyi Sugita
so both attended this ceremony and both dont have similarities.

so as i said here http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 3#p1885983 i think that Nagai is the person without moustache and some kind of dominant chin, who enetered USS Missouri right after Umezu. So i think that the image i named "Miyazaki Shuichi 2" was taken during that occasion and the photographer confused it or it was confused later. I definately do not think it is Miyakazi, since Miyakazi does not look like him.

there is a youtube video as well, doesnt proove anything but there's again (i think) Nagai:
Japanese delegation can be seen at Minutes 2:04, 2:30, 3:04

thanks for the new gifts, i shall search some today, i do not have much more "dry powder" but a few from the lost site should still be there.

Kind regards,
Matteus

Hi Matteus,

I think you are right, that it is Nagai not Miyazaki. It's a shame we can't make out the number of stars on the collar of "Miyazaki Shuichi 2", but if that pic were taken during the surrender ceremony, then we can see in the colour pic at http://www.maritimequest.com/warship_di ... page_3.htm that Miyazaki is wearing 4 rows of medal ribbons, whilst "Miyazaki Shuichi 2" is wearing only 3, so that would seem to prove it. Good spot!

Kind regards,

VJK

Unknown Japanese General
This photo (credit: U.S. Army Signal Corps), dated October 12, 1945, is of an unidentified Japanese general showing his medals to two U.S. Army officers prior to his boarding a ship in Pusan, Korea, for repatriation to Japan.

It appears that one of the officers (the one with the cigar) has his wallet out. Is he trying to buy the medals? And who is the general?

Hi,
coming back to a group photo you (VJK) IDd years ago. Just that it isnt lost and for another confirmation.

source: http://www.geocities.jp/a_sbjfg395/8_bu ... aken_b.htm

1st row, sitting from L to R: LG Sano Tadayoshi (?), LG Hyakutake Seikichi (obviously), unknown MG (?), maybe Kanda Masatane, last one i don't know for sure, from the look i'd say Maruyama Masao.

and one of Takehara from the IWM, seems to be the same ceremony shown here http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 7#p1884227

Kind rgards,
Matteus

Hi Matteus,

I can confirm that sitting in the 17th Army front row L-R are: Sano Tadaysohi, Hyakutake, Tsuboshima Fumio, Kanda Masatane and Maruyama Masao. Your mystery MG standing behind Tsuboshima is the later Lt. General Iwai Torajiro. The "Lt. General" is in fact a Lt. Colonel, Kamiya Yoshiharu.

Kind regards,

VJK
