Second Shanghai, Movement of Miscellaneous units

#1

Post by Jerry Asher » 30 Jul 2014, 06:29

The 9th, 13th and 101st Divisions were ordered to join the Shanghai Expeditionary on Sept 7(?) Maru movements covered the 9th, I was hoping we can do the same for the 13th and 101st Divisions. The regiments of the 101 were the 101, 149th, 103 and 157.

Likewise I have come across a reference to a 4th Army Mortar Bn.
I assume Wusung rather than Shanghai is landing site.

Many thanks in advance.

Hello Jerry:

The OOB of Shanghai Expeditionary Army was issued on 11 September, 1937. Both the 13th and 101st Divisions were added to it.

Because the 101st Division was demobilized in 1940, its record is not left.

According to 部隊略歴 Unit Brief History, the movement of the 13th Division was as f0llows. The ships they boarded are unknown.
HQ
- Departed Osaka on 28 September
- Landed at Shanghai on 1 October
The 58th Infantry Regiment
- Departed Takada on 25 September
- Landed at Shanghai on 3 October
The 65th Infantry Division
- Departed Osaka on 26 September
- Landed at Shanghai on 3 October
The 104th Infantry Regiment
- Departed Kobe on 6 October
- Landed at Woosung on 10 October
The 116th Infantry Regiment
- Departed Kobe 28 September
- Landed at Shanghai 2 October
The 19th Mountain Artillery Regiment
- Departed Kobe on 29 September
- Landed at Woosung on 3 October
The 13th Engineer Regiment
- Departed Japan on unknown day
- Landed at Shanghai on 4 October

Many thanks Fontessa and good morning:

I am almost at the end of my quest regarding 2nd Shanghai. Do you mind if I just list them here. I appreciate all your sharing and realizie I must seem a pest, I understand if you are unable to assist further. I have found citations for the following: 4th Army Mortar Battalion,
5th and 6th Independent Heavy Artillery Battalions and a 5th Brigade. That's it! Enough questions on 2nd Shanghai.

Hello Jerry:

The below is the OOB of Shanghai Expeditionary Force on 11 September, 1937.
http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E4%B8%8A% ... F%E5%88%97

As for the 5th Field Heavy Artillery Brigade, I guess the composition was as follows.
- HQ
- The 10th Field Heavy Artillery Regiment
- The 15th Independent Field Heavy Artillery Regiment
- The 2nd Independent Field Battalion
- The 3rd Independent Field Battalion

Unfortunately above units were disbanded later. So the movement data of them is not left. Although I can research the organization of them, I can't trace their movement.
