Medical Major-General KOMODA Kikuji

Hi,

I am trying to verify the date of promotion and death for Medical Major-General KOMODA Kikuji (菰田菊次) (こもだ きくじ).

The site http://admiral3166.ddo.jp/31page/a/ps.htm#92m001/ has him as Major-General as of 7th November 1942 (Death same day), while the book by Fukukawa Hideki 日本陸軍将官辞典 (p.317) has the data as 8th February 1944. Which is correct? Or did he die in 1942 and post-humously promoted in 1944?

I noticed that that are two documents in JACAR from 1944 that mentions KOMODA.

JACAR(Japan Center for Asian Historical Records)Ref.A11115082700、(National Archives of Japan)
JACAR(Japan Center for Asian Historical Records)Ref.A12090433000、(National Archives of Japan)

Perhaps one able to read Japanese would be so kind to look at these two documents as to whether they provides any clues.

Thank you in advance.
Kind Regards

The former seems right. 菰田菊次 is no common name, but there were another 菰田菊次, medical second lieutenant, post-humously awarded (promotion was not mentioned) in Feb 1944, in JACAR A11115082700. On the other hand A12090433000 referred to medical colonel 菰田菊次, awarded in Jun 1941 based on long service. medical second lieutenant 軍医少尉 and medical major general 軍医少将 looks confusing.

append:

Oops. I was wrong. he was dead in Feb 1944 and medical second lieutenant 菰田菊次 did not exist.

I found a longer expression about this mystery in JACAR A12090433400. A11115082700 was an index of a bundle of documents including A12090433400, where 軍医少将 was miswritten as 軍医少尉.

A12090433400 roughly says;

Komoda passed away in 8 Feb 1944 at the front. The situation of his death was then not available because of communication problem. Now (Jun 1944) it is too late for his awarding on happenings in Feb on IJA basic rule, but on another wartime rule valid from 1937, we process his additional award, dating 26 Feb 1944 on the document.

This document referred to him as 'Late medical major general'. So it was not post-humously promotion. I assumed as Page.31 suggested his promotion was in 7 Nov 1942.
