Battleship Haruna — Midway June 1942

#1

Post by Leo Niehorster » 13 Sep 2014, 13:31

Greetings!

For The Battle of Midway, I have the commanding officers for the battleship Haruna as both
    Takama, Tamotsu [41]
and
    Koma, Tomatsu [41]
I have found his rank at this time as both a Captain and a Rear Admiral.

1/ Which version of the name is correct?
2/ Was he already a rear admiral at this time?

Cheers
Leo

Yes.
According to page 1 of JACAR C13072085300, he was promoted to Rear Admiral on 1 May, 1942.
And he was assigned to the commander of DesRon 4 on 20 June, 1942.

Won't be me...I tried to edit some of the Japanese Navy sections and someone got a giant stick up their a** and one of the admins threatened to ban my IP address. About the only thing I use Wikipedia for is to see who died recently.

Ijnfleetadmiral: I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with Wikipedia! I have written some original articles for Wikipedia and contributed to many others (nothing in the Japanese military sphere, however). Wikipedia is not the easiest venue to work in. They do not allow original research and insist that you provide references. Plus, Wikipedia has its own culture and way of "doing business." There are quite a few formatting hoops to jump through as well. I stay away from anything controversial. If a contribution breaks new ground or might contradict something already "in print," it is always a good idea to discuss it on the article's "talk page" to gain consensus with other contributors. One thing I have learned on Wikipedia as well as in life, is that as much as I think I might know about something, there is always someone out there who knows more.

Speaking of which, an important advantage of this forum is that we can almost always find out what we want here without having to go to Wikipedia at all. We are blessed by having as members of Axis History, the world's foremost experts on Japanese armor, Japanese military organization, Japanese ship movements, German military organization, Japanese army aviation, and many other areas as well. They are all published authors (both in print and on the web) not to mention gentlemen of the old school who freely and kindly give us the benefit of their time and knowledge.
