Hello ijnfleetadmiral,

>Shokaku
>XO from 15 August 1941 - 1 September 1943
According to page 37 of JACAR C13072081700, he was 寺西武千代中佐 CDR TERANISHI Takechiyo.

I could not find others in 海軍辞令公報.

Actually, Teranishi was relieved before 1 September 1943; on 22 August 1942 he was posted CO of kaibokan Shimushu. He probably was relieved around the time Shokaku entered drydock for refit in June 1942. Thoughts, anyone?

The date orders are issued is not necessarily the change of command date or the date of assumption of duties. The officer has to turn over his position to his successor, proceed to his new command, receive a turnover from the officer he is relieving and then assume his new position. Generally, the higher up in the food chain you are, the longer this process takes. In the U.S. and Royal Navies, a change of afloat command usually involves the new commanding officer going to sea in the ship with the old commanding officer to see how the ship performs before relieving.
