Hi,
The 3 main Imperial Japanese awards were the Order of the Rising Sun, Order of the Sacred Treasure and Order of the Golden Kite. Can anyone please state the order of precedence for these 3 awards.
Many thanks in advance.
Very best regards,

Order of precedence of medals
Re: Order of precedence of medals
旭日章 the Order of the Rising Sun
瑞宝章 the Orders of the Sacred Treasure
金鵄勲章 the Order of the Golden Kite
The number of grade was the most important for the precedence. For example, a soldier was given the Order of the Golden Kite, 7th grade. Field officers(major, Lt.Col. and colonel) received 4th grade. If a man had the Orders of the Sacred Treasure 3rd grade and the Order of the Golden Kite 4th grade, the former was the higher order in formal protocol.
If in the same grade, the Order of the Golden Kite > the Order of the Rising Sun > the Orders of the Sacred Treasure. In this century they changed the system so that the Order of the Rising Sun and the Orders of the Sacred Treasure of the same grade should be equal in precedence.
As a tendency, the Order of the Rising Sun was for distinguished service while a long honorable service was enough to award the Orders of the Sacred Treasure, but I believe in reality this rule was not rigorously kept.
If a man received two or more of the three kind, he wore the highest grade award for each of the three. Exceptionally, if he was awarded the Order of the Golden Kite twice or more, he was allowed to wear all of them.
