Hello. I'm interested in the Japanese Lieutenant Commander Genzo Shoji. Prompt please Lieutenant Commander Shoji Genzo one passenger submarine U 234. Since what year he was in Germany? He came to Germany in 1939? Or he traveled by train across Siberia to 1940-1941? Or he sailed on a submarine from June 1941 to 1944? I know that Lieutenant Commander Hideo Tomonaga another passenger submarine U 234 arrived in Germany on the submarine I 29, to be exact, he sailed on it to the Indian Ocean, and then moved to the German submarine U 180! And as in Germany proved to Lieutenant Commander Genzo Shoji? This question always interested me the most! Thanks in advance. Regards Thomas Cross

Shoji was in Italy from 1939 to 1944, then for a short while studied in Sweden from Nov 1944. In Jan 1945 IJN ordered him to return to Japan from Germany. His letter to his sons, dated as 31 Jan 1945, was still written at Stockholm.

Details of SHOJI Genzo career can be found in TOMONAGA Takako book. She was related to TOMONAGA Hideo. The book can still be obtained in Japan.
