hi, which single book could you recommend that deals with the entire Solomon campaign ? From 42 to 45.

South Pacific Cauldron: World War II's Great Forgotten Battlegrounds by Alan Rems is a fairly recent book that covers the subject
well. Also, Reports of General MacArthur: The Campaigns of MacArthur in the Pacific. Volume 1 (for the Allied perspective) by Douglas
MacArthur and Vol II parts 1 & 2 (for the Japanese perspective). Cartwheel: The Reduction of Rabaul by John Miller in the US Army
Official History series is very comprehensive. You are pretty much not going to find one volume to cover it since the campaign covered
so vast an area and the Solomons Campaign was tied to New Guinea operations.

Islands of destiny, John Prados

Japanese army operations in the South Pacific area, published by the Australian want memorial, translated by Stephen Bullard

Both of these works are not all encompassing but they offer up a good filler and are highly recommended

All depends really on what you're looking for. I'm doing a comprehensive study of the battle for Guadalcanal. You have to remember that battle alone was 6 months long and was a combined arms battle so there are several good books out there that look at the battle but from different perspectives. For example "The Old Breed" looks at the battle from the perspective of Gen. Vandergrift's Ops officer, while "Neptunes Inferno" relives it from a naval perspective.

Richard Frank's book...Guadalcanal (1990).

The Australian War Memorial book is a translation of the relevant volume of BKS/Senshi Sosho, I believe. (That is, the Japanese equivalent of the Green Book series, based on official/primary source records.)

The Green Book series volume: Guadalcanal, the First Offensive. By John Miller, Jr.
