Cabanatuan Prison Camp
Cabanatuan Prison Camp
I am looking for information about the Cabanatuan Prison Camp in 1945. Who was the commander of the camp and what were the designations of the IJA units stationed there and in the immediate vicinity? TIA

Re: Cabanatuan Prison Camp
Cabanatuan Prison Camp was the 1st sub-camp of Philippines Prison Camp. See the following document at JACAR.
C12122480400
As stated in the document, Lt. Col. Hayashi who was the commander of 1st sub-camp became acting commander of Philippines Prison Camp. On Jan. 10th, the 1st sub-camp at Cabanatuan released prisons and the personnel of the camp joined to 10th Division. So, the prison camp at Cabanatuan was closed when the Americans came.
At Cabanatuan, 356th Independent Infantry Battalion of 103rd Division was stationed. But, it moved north and left from Cabanatuan. From the mid January, 105th Division passed Cabanatuan. On Feb. 1st, 359th Independent Infantry Battalion of 105th Division reached Cabanatuan and encountered the Americans. They fought with the Americans and retreated.
