Tokyo Military Facilities

#1

Post by Wellgunde » 21 Feb 2016, 03:40

I recently purchased a map of Tokyo dated 1945 and produced for the use of occupation personnel. The map shows the locations of several imperial military buildings and facilities. The names are somewhat misleading and perhaps inaccurate. I would appreciate it if anyone can provide the correct or more accurate identifications of the following:
Kojimachi Ward
Secret Police Headquarters
Navy Department
War Department
Oji Ward
Arsenal
Akasaka Ward
1st Regiment
3rd Regiment
Meguro Ward
Navy College
Shinagawa Ward
six harbor forts
Yodobashi Ward
Artillery School
Military Academy
Toyama Military School
Kyobashi Ward
Navy Medical School
Navy Dockyard
Fukugawa Ward
Nautical School

Those wards are old wards before 1947. They are not understandable now.

Kojimachi Ward is now a part of Chiyoda Ward.
Secret Police Headquarters - It will mean Kempeitai HQ(憲兵隊司令部).
War Department - Ichigaya, Shinjuku Ward

Oji Ward - Kita Ward.
Arsenal - Tokyo First Arsenal

Akasaka Ward - Minato Ward.
1st Regiment - 1st Infantry Regiment
3rd Regiment - 2nd Infantry Regiment

Navy College - Kamiōsaki, Shinagawa Ward

Yodobashi Ward - Shinjuku Ward
Artillery School - It will be 陸軍砲工学校, Later 陸軍科学学校.

Kyobashi Ward - Chuo Ward

Fukugawa Ward - Koto Ward
Nautical School - I don't know what it means. IJN Nautical School was at Yokosuka, not Tokyo.

Nautical School will mean Nautical College(高等商船学校). Nautical College is not military school, but merchant school. But. graduates had to serve in the navy at wartime.

Tokyo Nautical College(東京高等商船学校) located at Etchūjima, Koto Ward.

HQ and some barracks were located to the north of Imperial palace (on the bottom of this map): http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/japa ... 645-08.jpg
Guards cavalry regiment's barracks were located near Waseda university.
There us an Arts and crafts gallery in a HQ building now: http://www.momat.go.jp/cg/visit/architecture/
