How many Japanese ships were sunk by Chinese forces?
Hello people, I am interrested in the number of Japanese ships sunk by Chinese forces. A US report mentioned only 3 Japanese merchants sunk by Chinese planes and none warship sunk. Yet that report only included larger vessels and excluded small vessels, some of which were sunk by Chinese mines in Yangtze river. Can anyone provide information on the 3 Japanese merchants sunk as well as Japanese naval losses due to Chinese forces?
PS:
Lost vessels from collaborationist forces were not covered here. Thanks a lot!

Hi.
What I found "Warships Of The Imperial Japanese Navy 1869-1945":
River gunboat Hozu (340 ts) sunk by chinese aircraft 26.11.1944 near Anking
Small river gunboat Kotaka (63 ts) sunk by chinese aircraft 31.05.1944
River gunboat Fushimi (350 ts) sunk by chinese aircraft 25.11.44 near Anking.
IJN serviced a number of smaller river MGBs, too, but no Details about losses, sry.

AFAIK, the IJN also lost some landing craft, motorboats, river transports etc. in China either from mines or from artillery.

Japanese Monograph No 116 provides lists of Japanese combatant and non-combatant vessels sunk alphabetically and by date. While the lists do not indicated the nationality of the forces responsible for the sinkings, they do give geographical locations which may be helpful in narrowing down your search.

Just a quick observation: Because of the general shallowness of the coast and that most "action" was either on a river or adjacent to land almost anything that was sunk was raised. Thus a minesweeper sunk in the advance to Nanjing was later repaired as was a an AP/AH on the Yangzi in 1938 and a minesweeper involved in the Guangzhou landing in 1938. Can dig up names, if desired.

Thank you for the information, I just saw ur message, sorry for replying late. I am currently focusing on permanently lost vessels, but still interesting to know these facts!Jerry Asher wrote:Just a quick observation: Because of the general shallowness of the coast and that most "action" was either on a river or adjacent to land almost anything that was sunk was raised.
