Anyone know the exact dates of promotion for fighter ace SAKAI Saburo? I was able to glean the following from the Japanese Wikipedia page...is what I have correct, and can anyone fill in the blanks? TIA for any info.

Seaman Recruit - 31 May 1933
Seaman 2nd Class - ???
Seaman 1st Class - ???
Leading Seaman - ???
Petty Officer 3rd Class - 9 April 1938
Petty Officer 2nd Class - 1 May 1939
Petty Officer 1st Class - 1 June 1941
Chief Petty Officer - 1 November 1942
Warrant Officer - 1 November 1943
Ensign - 1 August 1944
Lieutenant (j.g.) - 5 September 1945
MSG, MS State Guard (Ret.) - First Always!

It seems odd that he would be promoted to Lt JG on Sept 5th when all fighting ceased on Aug 15th and the the official surrender was Sept 2nd, three days before.

Nothing odd here. Japan lost the war, but its' military continued to exist.

Well, when you've lost the war and your now to demobilize, why promote someone? Better veterans pension? Other than that I don't see the point.

Promotions were handed out until 1 November 1945. Here are some other examples:
