Takahito, Prince Mikasa, the youngest of the Showa emperor's three brothers died Thursday at the age of 100. Takahito served in the China Expeditionary Army and later in the Army Section of Imperial General Headquarters. Early on he was critical of Japan's China policy and was one of the lone voices urging an end to the war. Following the surrender, he urged his brother to take responsibility for the war by abdicating. Post war, he became a college professor specializing in the Middle East and Semitic languages.
