Among recently declassified CIA documents from 1944, there is a document named "Japanese intelligence and propaganda in Turkey" made by Office of War Information in Istanbul on January 15, 1944 [pp. 26-31 on the following link].

It claims claim that Japanese journalist Mr. Umeda stationed in Sofia, Bulgaria was a spy [p. 29].

Umeda's information is mostly based on his excellent Polish and Ukrainian relations in Eastern Europe. He is simply a spy. He was once a sort of a press officer with the legation in Sofia and formerly was registered as correspondent of Asahi Shimbun as a cover. As for Turkey, he has a special agent named [unreadable] who is a Bulgarian journalist and visits Turkey from time to time.

Now, the same Japanese press officer Mr. Umeda Rioci [Ryoichi/Ryotsu?] had a very prominent role in the period 1941-1943 as a source of intelligence regarding Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Romania, Turkey and USSR for the Croatian Ambassador to Bulgaria, Vladimir Židovec, who perceived Mr. Umeda as a Japanese spymaster.

Also, Croatian diplomatic reports written by Ambassador Židovec mention Mr. Umeda's Ukrainian friends by name and his Polish sympathies, which would confirm the American data from 1944.

Does anybody know a bit more about Mr. Umeda?

Also, does anybody know something about the career of Mr. Miura Kazuichi, the Japanese Ambassador to Croatia 1944-1945.

There is a mention of Japanese diplomat Mr. Kinoshita from the Ankara Embassy in the quoted dispatch:
