I'm wondering if you all have recommendations for books/reading about the early stages of the Allied occupation of Japan.
I'm interested especially about the initial landings, interactions/planning among Japanese and Allied officers and leadership, civilian reaction/interaction, armed incidents. What were the difficulties of language, resistant elements of the Japanese population or armed forces, Allied ground troop perception of the Home Islands, logistical accommodations.
Are there any recommended books on this subject?

The Allied occupation of Japan was codenamed "Operation Blacklist." The best starting place for Blacklist is in The Reports of General Macarthur; Volume I supplement: MacArthur in Japan - The Occupation Military Phase. This book is available online. A search of Worldcat.org will return a large list of books and monographs on the occupation including several covering the initial military operations.
