Total Panzerfaust Production

#1

Post by Dann Falk » 09 Jun 2014, 16:35

Greetings All,

1. Anyone know what the total German panzerfaust production was during the war? A breakdown of the different types would also be nice.

2. Did the Allies keep production going after the end of the war in Europe? I would think this would be for testing reasons.

Thanks

Thanks Paul for the info.

So...
1943 - 350,000
1944 - 5, 662,000
1945 - 2, 560,000
----------------------
Grand Total = 8, 572,000

That is a huge number of panzerfausts.

I also read (on this site) that large numbers of them were duds, failed to fire or explode. Due to sabotage, pour workmanship, rushed production.

The above numbers are really odd. Looking at the ammunition production history listed in the reports from November 1944 and March 1945, the numbers from October 1944 on match those above, but the numbers before that are much lower in the production reports. Also, the two sources use different metrics, the latter being the most accurate in terms of the number of shots being available to Feldzeuginspektion. Unfortunately, I only have the numbers from October 1943 onwards:

1943-10: 50 000
1943-11: 36 000
1943-12: 93 000
1944-01: 78 000
1944-02: 110 000
1944-03: 141 000
1944-04: 130 000
1944-05: 169 500
1944-06: 189 000
1944-07: 120 000
1944-08: 258 000
1944-09: 294 000
1944-10: 404 000
1944-11: 1 186 000
1944-12: 1 280 000
1945-01: 1 000 000
1945-02: 1 056 000

Probably, your numbers for Panzerfaust only, without Faustpatrone. The 1944 total from your numbers is 4 359,5 thousands. It's much close to figure from Lexikon - 4 120,5 thousands.

Thank you, Paul. I had a look through a seperate set of production reports, and apparently, from September 1944 onwards, the two types were reported together. Sadly, I could only find the production numbers from August 1943 to January 1944 for the small version. The numbers still doesn't add up for the original figures, though:

Code: Select all

            Klein Groß Total
1943-08 500 6 800 7 300
1943-09 2 500 15 000 17 500
1943-10 15 000 50 000 65 000
1943-11 2 000 36 000 38 000
1943-12 84 500 93 000 177 500
1944-01 79 000 78 000 157 000
1944-02 110 000
1944-03 141 000
1944-04 130 000
1944-05 169 500
1944-06 189 000
1944-07 120 000
1944-08 258 000
1944-09 294 000
1944-10 404 000
1944-11 1 186 000
1944-12 1 280 000
1945-01 1 000 000
