I wonder how often those were painted on for a news or propaganda photo vs a accurate count?

Hard to say!Most likely kill rings on the flak guns barrels are for all battery score.

Picture of a damaged Flak gun captured by the Allies on a German Airfield in France. It looks to me like a 25 mm Hotchkiss but with a much heavier mount. Is it the Mle 1939 or even a possible heavier static version?

Hello Emmanuel

Here a other photo of the same gun as on your photo , AFAIK the Mle 39 has the gunner
behind the gun an not on the right side , please see the photo from SES on page 1 .

Photo = Ebay.de

Regards and a Merry Christmas Jos

Hi Emmanuel and Jopaerya, I think that your gun can be a 25mm Mle1940 static version
The handwheels are different from 25mm Mle 1938 and Mle 1939

Sturm 78, you're right: Mle 1940. 8-)

This model existed in 2 types: Mle 1940 in fixed mount for airfield defense (147 available in May 1940) and twin mount (Mle 1940 J - "J" for "Jumeau' in French i.e. "twin"? :idea: )

Another interesting photo of 25mm Hotchkiss, what appears to be single fixed mount (On board a troop transport ship, Levant 1941)
