Hi Daniel

Here a picture from JP ( Kranken ) of the inside of that M 272 looks that the nisches
are bigger then the one's we see in most of the M 272 but it's hard to see if these
nisches are 1.50 deep .

Hi,
During my latest visit I found two circular holes in the floor of the gun room revealing a pit beneath it (about one meter deep), which I cannot find on any drawing.

Hello SES

I think the openings are to through the empty shells in the room underneath the gunroom .

Hi Jos,
My thought as well, but how did they get the empty cartridges out again?

Hi SES,
I thought that they emptied the room trough the hole behind the gun, it had to be closed with a niedergangsklappe.
but we did not found that in every M272, so it could be that it could also be done in an other way.

On Ile de Ré we visited the two M272 at Herta, they seem bigger than the ones weve seen elsewhere.
Is this possible or was that just optical?
Greetings Jack.

Hi Jack,
It is my estimate, that it would be very difficult for a person to crawl down through the hole behind the gun.

They were probably for the cables connecting the cannons for firedirecting.
I think they could also have served as smoke offlet from the hülsengrube.
Greetings Jack.

Hi Alex,
"The Danish model" does not have these, nor the small niches in the entrance.

Hello

Jack is right , as you can see on the drawing the pipe starts in the shell-pit and runs to the top ,
and the "yellow" parts are for the handgranates to roll outside the bunker .

Drawing = Nationaal archief

Hi Alex,
Your pit is for the empty hulsen and your questionmark is the place where they go in to the hülsengrube.
And the schaft at the left is where the come out manually!

I think it is for the cables that go to the gun.
They could need reparations, so you have to get to them.
Thats my humble opinion though.
