Command bunkers in army coast battery's

Hello All

These bunkers are from the period before the building of the actual Atlantikwall , the first one is only 1 meter thick
and was build in Northern France and Belgium in the gun batterie's but also in the command post of the H.K.A.

Bunker one found so far
(1) Etretat ( with extra rooms added on the backside )
(2) Le Mesnil Val ( Pen 02 )
(3) Malo les Bains ( H.Q.)
(4) La Panne
(5) Duinbergen ( H.Q.)
(6) Zeebrugge ( together with a later build commandpost )

The other bunker is also build in commandposts and in the gun battery's but is build in two meter and
must be build in a later phase the the first model . NIce to see on this bunker is the observation slide
on the front and in the back of the bunker , because in the open emplacements the guns could be used
360 degree's .

(1) Duinkerken ( 1./1244 )
(2) Duinkerken ( Fort St Pol )
(3) Malo les Bains ( H.Q. )
(4) Oost-Duinkerke
(5) Westende
(6) Middelkerke
(7) Vosseslag
(8) Duinbergen ( H.Q. )

Do you know more places were these bunkers were build , please add .

Maybe this one , but that would be a naval bunker also in that kind of observation bunkers
there are similarities between the bunkers . Strange is that "bunker 1" is not found in Pas
de Calais AFAIK but again in the Dieppe and Etretat area .

Hello Jos,

The HKB Leitstand with 2m wall (1942-1943) has been built also within the Stp von Rundstedt (HKB La Panne)

The HKB Leitstand with 1m wall has been built for the early HKB positions (1941-1942) in:
* La Panne as Forward Observation bunker of the HKB Duinhoek (HKB 2./826)
* Zeebrugge as Fwd Obs bunker of the HKB 3./769
* Duinbergen (?)

Each HKB (*) had also a Close Observation bunker (like Camipng Cosmos) but the one of the HKB Mariakerke (HKB 1./823) had the floor plan of the "HKB Leitstand with 1m wall" but with the tower of the "Cosmos type" on top of it.
(*) verified for HKB Duinhoek, HKB Groenendijk, HKB Westende (Cosmos), HKB Middelkerke (Kalkaert), HKB 1./769 , HKB 2./769 and HKB 3./769.

The Observation bunker 'Strand Café' is not of the model "HKB leitstand with 1m wall". This bunker was the Forward Observation bunker of one of the divisional bateries (I will need to check this at home on the German document which one exactly)

The Observation bunker within the Stp von Kleist is not from the model "HKB Leitstand with 1m wall" but from a third model of maybe from a variant of this model. This 3rd model is also to be found inside the Stp Blücher I.
Within the Stp von Kleist = Fwd Obs bunker of HKB Wenduine (early position of HKB 2./823)
Within the Stp Blücher I = Fwd Obs bunker of the HKB 1./769.

There was another one inside Stp Gneisenau (between the 2 R631) for the HKB 2./769 with later a scheinwerfer on top of it, but this one I don't know the exact type of it yet.

(6) Zeebrugge ( together with a later build commandpost )

Bunker 2 ( 2 meter )

1) Duinkerken ( 1./1244 )
(2) Duinkerken ( Fort St Pol )
(3) Malo les Bains ( H.Q. )
(4) la Panne ( 2./H.K.A.A. 826 / 6./H.K.A.A. 1240 )
(5) Oost-Duinkerke ( 1./H.K.A.A. 826 / 5./H.K.A.A. 1240 )
(6) Westende ( 3.H.K.A.A. 826 / 7./H.K.A.A.1240 )
(7) Middelkerke ( 3./H.K.A.A.823 / 3./H.K.A.A.1240 )
