Hello All

This is a plan of Cherbourg were Stollen (underground gallerys)
for the Marine Nachrichten Officier near St Savour were
build , is this the same Stollen were in 26-06-1944 the
Gen. von Schlieben surrenderd ?
It also looks like the Stollen are to big for only the M.N.O. could
it also be for the Seekommandant Normandie ??

hi,

According to most books this quarry was the HQ for the Seekdt. Normandie.
This would mean they were co-located, which seems to be the case with
all other Seekdt.

It was indeed also the location where Gen.lt. Von Schlieben surrendered after he left Chiffrevast. I think reading in some docs that the Fest. Kdt. was located in a stollen
near La Glacerie, close to the Suedpfeiler of the Landfront. Close to the MNO-location
there was also a large Luftwaffe communications position.

hi,

I think the two you mean are the two L434? (think that's the type) near Fort du Roule.
No, this one should lay at the east side of Cherbourg.

Reviving this thread again ... because this brings back memories of a "little" beton holiday I've made with two friends back in 1998 or 1999 with the Lipmann books serving as our "Felgrau" Michelin guides... I remember we bought the Chazette bible in Bayeux and whilst reading it back and forth at the B&B that night we dicided that go an look for those "stollen" , armed with an ign map of the region we did manage to find the aproximate location that was indicated in Chazette's book (remember this was pre satnav for the masses time allthough it did work at Tele Altas at the time)...

There's a mansion called "Proprieté Maurice" on that map that lookes like it was just on top of this quarry... We tried to contact the owners but nobody seemed to be home that day , we did spot some concrete "things" in the garden though... The rest of the day was spent scanning the direct area but either way we couldn't reach the deeper part of the quarry where the exit/entrance of the tunnels should have been... This little setback has stayed with me ever since , and I still hope someone will be able to provide more information on this location ... Goggle provided a few pictures on Flickr by a certain mr Michel Le Querrec but that's all I've found... https://www.flickr.com/photos/mlq/2879284780/

We did make a lot of pictures that holiday both analogue and digital (with a sony mavica using 3,5 inch diskettes !!) but I've lost most of it during the years. That's a pity because we managed to visit a lot of places that are now inaccessible Like Ile De Cézembre , The tunnels at StP Ruine and those at Falaises des vaches noires....
