Hello Dirk,

I'm curious about the origin of these designations. Are they German? :?
The reason I'm asking is because I've never seen Renault turrets equipped with either a 3,7 cm Pak or an MG 15. The original FT turrets typically had either the 37 mm SA 18 (3,7 cm Kwk 144 (f)) a short barrel low velocity gun with no antitank capability per se, or the 7.5 mm MAC 31 MG or the 8 mm Hotchkiss MG.

Dirk,

I don't have this Bauliste. If you can post it that would be great.

Have you seen these designations in other areas or just in St-Nazaire?

Thank you, Dirk.

This solves one of my two questions. When I read "VF Renault Kuppel MG 15 " in your previous post, I thought that you meant a Renault turret armed with an "MG 15" which was indeed a German MG (see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_15). But the documents mention "VF Renault Kuppel MG" with 15 being the volume of concrete (cubic meter).

For the 3.7 cm Pak Kuppel, I doubt that the Germans used tank turrets armed with the long 37 mm SA 38 gun, the only 37 mm French tank gun with antitank capabilities. And the only Renault tank armed with this gun would have been the R 40, better known as AMX 40. I've never seen so far any picture of a French tank turret with the 37 mm SA 38 long gun mounted on a Tobruk.

My conclusion would be that the first German soldier who wrote the report writer used 3,7 cm Pak as an equivalent to 3,7 cm KwK in these document.

On this link:
http://the.shadock.free.fr/France_AFVs.pdf
it is a list of preserved in France tanks and other military vehicles and main parts, we can see also preserved tanks turrets mounted on bunkers.
