Javier,

I've been asking myself the same question for a couple of years now after discovering the story in several books and reports. See for example my post on 23 Jul 2015 here: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 8&start=15 [Re: 38 cm Siegfried Kanone (E)]

One Siegfried was planned to be sent to E.686 in October 1944. See paragraph 5) E.686 in the German document below originally posted by Jos on 09 Jan 2017 in the following thread:
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... &start=300 [Re: Railway guns of the Axis forces]

The question is indeed if this 38 cm gun made it to Metz late October or not.

Hi Manuferey,

I read this paragraph from "Eisenbahnartillerie 40-45" and thought that E-Batt 686 was waiting for its firts Siegfried in December. But maybe it was the second one and the first was yet lying at Metz...

• E-Batt. 1/725 mit 2x Bruno Neu
• E-Batt. 765 mit 2x K5 Tiefzug
• E-Batt. 686 mit 1x34 cm (f) und 1 Siegfried-Kanone (E) in Zuführung
Meanwhile new info about the Metz wreck appears, what about this K5? :

I think that the pictures show some of the K5's captured at Sluiskil which is a town located just south of Terneuzen if I'm not mistaken. See pictures in this thread [K5 Reichsbahn Series numbers] http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... l&start=30. There was in particular an Ausf B (Nr. 919217). It should the one on the 4th picture above.

According to Uwe's Artillerie-Bible Bttr. 686 had its first 38cm Gun already in September 1944.

A known photo on the news, March 22, 1945
The Decatur Daily Review from Decatur, Illinois

"THIS GUN'S SHOOTING DAYS FOR GERMANS ARE OVER !
The enemy kept such guns in tunnels by day, rolling them out at night to bombard Allied positions. This 240 mm. German railway gun was captured by the U. S. Seventh army in France."

https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/86529019/

Other Internet caption says "U.S. 7th Army Troops, 3rd Armored Division with captured 27,4cm K(E) 592(f). March 1945 near Cologne". Then should be VII Corps troops, before 22 March.

Hi,
The terrain looks not like the zuiderzee area at all.

That area is as flat as a pancake.. even the dunes on the north des coast are not that high and grown with trees.
Only at Schoorl/Bergen, but i dont recognize it. Maybe someone else?

Edit: its captured at the zuiderzee, that dont mean this picture was taken there...

Hi,

The pictures are from a member of the 203rd AAA Bn. From 10 august 1944 to V-E Day, 9 May 1945, this unit fought as an integral part of the 7th Armored. The route is in the following map:

https://s14.postimg.org/9i1zkjh01/203rd_AAA_Map.jpg

I do not know which kind of rr gun is on the pics, so no idea of the unit of the gun.
