french railway gun
Re: french railway gun
According to a German document dated November 22, 1943, there were 6 x 194/29 K(E) (19,4 cm K486(f) – ex-French 194 mm Mle 1870-93) in a single battery under 87 A.K. in Liguria, northern Italy. I think that the other 6 guns from the original 12 pieces transferred to Italy after 1940 were fighting with the Italian co-belligerant forces alongside the Allies.
In April 1944, according to another German document (dated April 12,1944), the 6 guns were part of Armeegruppe Zanten, thus, still in northern Italy, but were now split in two batteries of 3 guns each.
Does someone know the names or numbers of the single battery in 1943 and of the two batteries in 1944?

On the back of a picture from this ebay auction, there was the mention of E.459. This E-battery was indeed one of the German E-batteries armed with this type of ex-French 32 cm railway gun.jopaerya wrote:Some other picture from a French 32 cm railway gun in German service in Italy , please note also the railway tunnel .
