Hello

That right - the 58c is already gone and the 622 is to follow.

They were to remove the 622 because of an new Building to the Centerstore there, and the 58c were removed by mistake

Not often you hear about a bunker demolition from Jersey, particularly regarding fortress standard constructions!

But sadly a Type 646 water pumping and storage bunker which is part of Wn. Lewis Tower is to be demolished in the next few weeks. It had become 'lost' as it had a large shopping and entertainment complex known as 'The Chateau' built over it post war. Sadly this meant the local Planning Dept. didn't know of its existence when granting permission to demolish 'The Chateau' and allow houses to be built on the site. As the Type 646 would have caused major problems and costs to the developers it was decided to allow the bunker to be demolished (noting that this Type is also common on Jersey).

On the plus side the CIOS (Jersey) has been offered all the internal fittings for use in restored bunker sites 8-) These include a very well preserved stable door, gas proof door, escape shaft door, grill gate and a couple of pressure release valves. The doors are going to Stp. Corbiere ready for remounting in the U/WaKoFest personnel shelter there (pending planning approval), and the gate plus valves are going to MP3 tower at Les Landes.

Regards,
Malcolm :milwink:

At Groningen(Holland), three bunkers will be demolished next year. The FL246 and M383 (very unique type) from Batterie Nansum and the FL246 with museum at Delfzijl. They are going to strenghten dike because of the earthquakes caused by gas extraction. It's only a matter of years before Batterie Termunten will be demolished I guess.

In Wommelgem near Antwerp, Belgian bunker C12 of the Massenhoven - Lier defence line is in the proces of being demolished.

BUT: the bunker is to strong and the heavy equipment the contractor is using damages the nearby houses.

So the work is stopped and further demolishing was canceled :D
