Unknow gun
Re: Unknow gun
8,8 cm SKC? 10,5 cm SKC? French?
According to the source below, this picture was taken at Battery of Pin des Galles in Provence in August 44. However, other pictures from 1944 show this battery armed with mobile 8,8 cm Flak (18 or 36). Therefore, it has to be at another location.

Re: Unknow gun
I am afraid that the caption is about 8000 miles in error. The gun is a japanese 75 MM type 88 static version. Note the square muzzle swell of the barrel, the compact recoil system under the barrel, and the peculiar triangle brace for the loaders platform.

Re: Unknow gun
After looking again, this might be a BL 12" howitzer barrel due to the size of the bore on this gun.SASH155 wrote:I think that this was taken in the west in 1940, and would be a captured British BL 9.2 inch Mk.2 howitzer barrel. The other barrel carriage with the pneumatic tires and disc wheels seen at the beginning of this thread which Jos mentions above may be Belgian.

Re: Unknow gun
Hi Sturm
The tyres don't look the same but could that be that the photo in question shows a gun moving not static. Or simply there were two types of tyre.
