4 cm Bofors
Re: 4 cm Bofors
Hello All,
a small addition to the Hungarian 36M Bofors.
Both the 40mm 36M AA gun, the Nimrod Spg and the 40M 40mm AT gun received a hollow charge projectile, called 40mm 42/aM Pr. gránát.
The grenades for the 36M/Nimrod were not interchangeable with the one for the 40M AT gun (I think beacuse of the flash suppressor of the AA guns)
Both the 36M and the Nimrod can be seen in this newsreel, but the very intresting thing is that the Nimrod has its flash suppressor removed and is armed with the grenade intended for the 40 mm AT gun (so this scene should be staged).

Here's a Finnish Bofors in tow in Kontupohja, Eastern Karelia heading for support of the Karelian Army's attack to Karhumäki, November 1941. Weather was getting very, very freeeezy...

Hello Sturm,
very intresting photo.
To my knowledge the Hungarian Bofors was fed with clips containing 4 rounds.
And to be honest I never saw a straight clip containing 6 rounds for the Bofors?
I don't see how this clip could be fitted into the gun...

I've been loader of 4 cm Bofors in 1971, shooting live ammunition.romsitsa wrote:To my knowledge the Hungarian Bofors was fed with clips containing 4 rounds.

It may be tecnically possible, but seems to be quite complicated and prone to errors.
Very interesting though!
Any ideas?

Re: 4 cm Bofors
The crew doesn't look "Hungarian", but rather German?
Very intresting discovery, all in all.
What do you think, was the whole Flak mounted above the Bofors housing, or were the aiming devices lowered?
On a regular bofors the sighting aparatus sits on top of the guns housing.

Hi Adam,
You're right of course. Here are photos of 3,7 cm Flak guns with similar transverse sight mounting bar in Bucharest: http://3dhistory.de/wordpress/?page_id=673

Re: 4 cm Bofors
Hi All
Is the gun the export version of the Rheinmetall 3.7 cm anti-aircraft gun not the 3.7 cm Flak 36/37? It has both layers for line and elevation where the Falk36/37 only had the one crew man for aiming. The Greek army had some as well which from memory we have discussed in the past.

Hungarian Bofors in colour at http://www.ww2incolor.com/d/19142-7/hungarian-flak.jpg
According to http://denes.us/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1155065723 Hungarians had a German 37 mm AA gun on the rolls as the 37 M. Maybe the Bucharest guns are spoils of war from the neighbouring Magyars.
