Jos,

According to Rudi Rolf in his book "Der Atlantikwall", the 17 cm battery Yorck from Pillau [MAA 115] was sent to Cherbourg as MKB Yorck. But according to your document, the Yorck Battery from Pillau ended up in Honigsvaag, Norway. :?

Coud it be explained as follows: personnel from the pre-war Yorck battery in Pillau was used to form two Yorck batteries in occupied Europe later with added 17 cm guns?

Same scenario with the 15 cm "Brommy" batteries?

Hello Emmanuel

Maybe here a explanation http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... hilit=west
on the use of the name for instance York-West and Brommy-West . Looks to me the original guns of
the M.K.B. Brommy ( Memel ) the 15 cm S.K.C/28 were place in Cherbourg ( 1940 ) and the M.K.B.
Brommy at Memel was reequipped with 4 x 15 cm SKL/45 in MPLC/13 later transferred to Norway in 1941/42 .

I have no clue for the M.K.B. York ( Pillau ) maybe they had more 17 cm guns ???

Regards Jos

A few actual photos from Klaipeda (Memel).

Memel Nord - the brick watchtower at the command post has been demolished. There is a 12,8cm FLAK barrel at the platform (founded under the sand). The ammunition and engine bunkers are still inside fenced and guarded area. Northern artillery bunker is closed and serves as a museum, southern one is freely accessible.

Flak- und Sperrbatterie Schweinsrücken - the area is equipped with information tables (maps, plans, English text)

(At the bottom you can open the map with most of the Baltic states fortifications - Russian, Soviet, German, Polish, Estonian and Latvian. Could be useful.)
