wasserbombenwerfer VB den helder
hi guys (and girls? )
on a undated german map of batterie wierhoofd (VB den helder NL ) i found there were 2 wasserbombenwerfer to cover the entrance of the marsdiep. (and the naval port)
as we know in vlissingen and ijmuiden the wasserbombenwerfer were placed in bunkers, but for den helder i cant find any drawing of a bunker?.....
so how were they mounted in other places in the atlantikwall??
anyone has an idea where to find more about wasserbombenwerfer?
thanks,
gr. tim

The answer is....
CCC14 should be some kind of bunker for a Wasserbombenwerfer.
Sorry, not in my personal archive.
Perhaps try a message to Jan, but I think he's in his French private "bunker" now.

Hello Tim
The Wasserbombenwerfers were nearly most harbour
entrances in the major port in the Atlantikwall . Please see also

hi guys, thanks for the reply's
rene, jan is returned from his france bunker
after some searching i found the brv drawing of the w.b.w.
attached it below.
i wonder how the weapon worked?
by airpressure?
seems kind of dangerous to fire an wasserbombe by an explosive charge?
somehow the rack with the w.b. on it had to be moved controllable.......
greetings tim

We, Remco Dank and myself saw one WBW firingtube in a museum on Terschelling and it looks like a mortar but with a fallblockverschuß on the bottom of the tube, it came from a Kriegsmarine vessel and it was found by divers or fisherman.
So to fire a WB there had to be a charge in the tube and the WB could be fired by pulling a string (i believe there was a lever on it).
Oh and i have drawn the BRV drawing and i thought it was a strange bunker, there was a observationpost on top of the bunker, and one of the floors is a bit lower than the other.
Greetings JK

The Wasserbombenwerfer C/35 used a 50x159R cartridge, made either out of brass or brass coated steel.

I would like to know what kind of fuze they used.
To my knowledge, the minimum depth setting for german depth charge fuzes was 15 meters.
The boosterassembly needed hydrostatic pressure to operate as well.
How deep was the entrance to Den Helder, deep enough for the normal fuzes to work ?
Or did they use something else ?
