Hello John

A friend of my is writhing a book on the Channel batteries , it could be coincidence but on 13 june
also the V 1 offensive starts , so maybe the woman at Maidstone was killed by a V1 and not a K 12 shell ??

For the events in 1940 it looks from picture's that were made in the early stage's the 21 cm K 12 was
located closer to the coastline so had a bigger reach in Engeland , later the 21 cm K 12 was placed near
Rixent ( Stp. Bismarck ) more inland .

Hello Jos,

Thank You for your reply.

The fatal casualty at Maidstone on 13 June 1944 was certainly the result of a K-12 shell. There were eight shells fired in total on this day, the first was fired a few minutes after 01:00hrs and the last at approximately 03:40hrs. The first V1 came down in Swanscombe (Kent) at approximately 04:13hrs. Based on an approximate flight time of 25 minutes for the full Calais-to-London distance it would indicate that this V1 (having flown a shorter distance) was not even launched until after the final shell had landed. There is some speculation that the shell bombardment was intended to draw attention away from the V1 launches, but there is no proof of this that I have seen.

However, this is the only K-12 attack on England where there is documented proof. Even the Wikipedia entry for the K-12 states that shell splinters from the gun were picked up near Chatham, but does not provide a source. Unless I can find something officially documented I will have to believe the incident did not happen.

Your friend's book about the channel batteries sounds very interesting. Has he written any other books?

Best Regards,

John.

Hello all,

I have this gun downs as being on the ostfront 1943 (whether that is because of info. written on its back or whether it was seller info. I am unsure). I'll check tonight if I can and get back.

Best,
Nezar

I read "Unser Scheibengrab in groß".

Does "Scheibe" mean "target" here? :?

I interpret it as windowpane, as in "once we're done here, you'll need a glazier".
The blast must have had quite an effect on urban areas.

Hello Emmanuel, i'm sure it means it, because every shot reveals the position of the K5 and the position is like a grave
