Re: Naval beds ??
Hi
It's called a "'Marine-Klapp-Bett".
I have an unfinished drawing of it, BUT it looks silly right now.
The distance between the mountingbolts are 191 cm.
Thats how I noticed that there were 2 bedtypes.
146 cm and 191 cm between bolts...
Kind regards
Tommy

Re: Naval beds ??
It IS a Marine-Klapp-Bett!!!
Since the Marine was loosing ground at sea, they scrapped the old ones.
I'm convinced of that.

Re: Naval beds ??
Well, Bettinger & Büren does not mension Marine-Klapp-Bett anywhere so they can not be Westwall beds.
Infact I have not found any mensioning of these beds anywhere at all. I have no proof at all.
Are there perhaps some Marine nerds outthere, that can help???
They just look too expensive to make, for bunker use.
Experience from WW1 was, that soldiers got sick living underground for longer periods of time.
That was especially true with older soldiers. Moist air and no daylight 24/7, will make you sick.
The Scharte 422P01 was to let more daylight in, 22x28cm. Replacing 48P8, 8x12cm.
In DK, the soldiers lived in barracks and would only use the bunkers if there was an alarm or a fear of invasion.
A barrack in the winter MUST have been cold. How about the rest of A.W.? I guess, the same there.
The beds could verywell be very old. Perhaps old pictures of WW1 ships, could solve the enigma.
How many ships were Germany allowed to keep in 1918?
I want to know for sure too. Though I'm convinced of it being Marine-Klapp-Bett.
They appear in latebuilt bunkers in DK. Fl.277, V.196, R.622 Silkeborg...
Why throw away a damn good bed? I would prefer that over any other bunkerbed. Infact, I want one!!!
Regards
Tommy

Re: Naval beds ??
Memel write you again. We try to restore the beds in one of the Memel coastal artillery batteries, and it was precisely this kind of like this thread (first picture). But we do not have precise data of these beds, and we have survived only in bed fittings. We will try to use the old civil beds that are similar to those beds. Therefore, we should be in terms of objectives width and length dimensions. And supports dimensions. It also places these slides is attached to the bed. And of course there is still surround dimensions. If you are not drawing it may be more opportunities for someone to be measured only if there is a possibility. Thanks to you, try one of the remaining battery restore living room with beds and other furniture. Our battery was called Memel - Nord, then a name and a museum. We would be very grateful for any help.
