Re: Bunkers with tank turrets!
Kurt,
Do you have those photos in a higher res, in particular the Italian photos of the Turms?
Tom.

Re: Bunkers with tank turrets!
Isn't it a soviet purpose made steel turret for a pillbox/bunker? Soviets made a lot of them in WW2 and postwar times.
This is a postwar type.Sorry i couldn't find a photo of a WW2 type.

This is postwar construction and looks to me like example preserved in outdoor exhibition-mayby Stalin Line Museum.Jose85 wrote:Isn't it a soviet purpose made steel turret for a pillbox/bunker? Soviets made a lot of them in WW2 and postwar times.

According to b&w photo: it shows turret attached on bunker which was built by the bridge over Dniepr river. Bunker+turret were used to defence this river crossing.
Turret looks like construction dedicated to this specific bunker or like from ... armoured train.

Re: Bunkers with tank turrets!
A Pz IV tank turret somewhere in Germany in 1945. We can still see the number “333” on the side. I assume that this number was a remain from its former state as a whole tank.
The picture was taken by Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Ronald Frederick (Ron) Layton, 453 Squadron RAAF after he had hitched a ride in a truck to Berlin with fellow squadron member "Undie" Underwood and two RAF men. No. 453 Squadron RAAF was posted at that time in Wunstorf, Germany

Re: Bunkers with tank turrets!
Hi Emmanuel
Looking at the "base" the turret is sitting on I think it is one of the immobile tanks that were dug in. The base looks like the superstructure of a Pz IV.

Re: Bunkers with tank turrets!
Thanks Clive. That would explained the size of the patch of packed dirt around the turret.
I'll blame my mistake on April Fool's Day.
