Re: Bunkers with tank turrets!
What might the "Pz Kw (T II S)" for MG34 or MG42 mentioned in this document be? Apparently the gun was not included.

Re: Bunkers with tank turrets!
Hi Jos,
I see, thanks!
Is it a modified Flamingo turret or a simplified version built especially for bunker installation? What does the T II S mean - Turm II Sonderkonstruktion or something else?

Re: Bunkers with tank turrets!
Thanks Jos!
Found a short text on it by Zaloga in The Atlantic Wall 2, saying they were modified Flamingo turrets with improved ventilation and simplified MG pivot mount.
I wonder what was wrong with the existing MG mount, making them use time and resources to change them. It can't have been a major problem, seeing as some were left unmodified.

Re: Bunkers with tank turrets!
When one studies the data in Panzer Tracts No.21-1 it is clear that when the original Kugelblende 30 (MG Ball mount) was still available it was used to on the Turm II Flamingo (Normalserie). The Turm II (S) only came into existence to utilize available turret shells. Remember that the Kugelblende 30 had already been replaced by the Kugelblende 50 on Panzer III in January 1941 and on the Panzer IV in May 1941 so would have been in short supply by the time the turrets were being converted for use on Bunkers and the tow types were not interchangeable.

Re: Bunkers with tank turrets!
Thank you for your reply. If the T II (S) was made from half-finished turrets less Kugelblende, that makes sense. The problem is the Zaloga text, and supposedly "Tank Turret Fortifications" by Neil Short (I haven't seen it yet), indicate the turrets were removed from Flamingos and then modified to T II (S), while the chassis were used for SPG's.FKDeane wrote:When one studies the data in Panzer Tracts No.21-1 it is clear that when the original Kugelblende 30 (MG Ball mount) was still available it was used to on the Turm II Flamingo (Normalserie). It is of course possible there was a supply of unfinished turrets in addition to the ones taken off the Flamingos, or that I'm reading it wrong.
