Hello

I was wondering - the inspection of the Atlantic Wall by Rommel led to some sort of report in the local areas which he inspected, right?

One plan and report are found in archives for Denmark (on the website of Museumscenter Hanstholm), but did the different local reports come together in af final report covering the whole AW?

Has anybody come across such local reports or even a final report for Rommels inspections??

Hello Kurt

I have asked Hans Sakkers about this ( the writher of the book Gen.Felm. Rommel )
he told me that the report about Denmark was a requist of the O.K.W.
I never saw a local or final report from the A.W. from Rommel , all we found were
reports from the visits that he made with his staf with orders to inprove the defences
or relocated troops , at one visit at Walcheren even a Hptm. Schmersow was releaved of
post and was send home on orders of Rommel .

Hello Jos

Thanks for your effort :)

Strange though, that when such a senior officer (commander) was ordered by the OKW to inspect all defences along the Atlantic Wall - and there was no official final report written??

The OKW - I think - would be interested in some sort of conclusion of that inspection?

Well - maybe in some dark and damped archive somewhere 8O

Hello Jos

In january - february 1944 Rommel was in Holland and Belgium and Northern France (in his cloth coat).

At the end of february - first in march he was in the south-west (Bayonne) of France and on the Mittelmeerküste (in his leather coat).

I have several photos of him in that period, and your photo from 8th. of february 1944 must be from either Holland or Belgium - thats my thoughts on that question!!

Any other suggestions??

Any indications from the identity of the other officers on the photo - who else is in the photo - any one who recognize any of them? That might shed a light on where it is excactly :)

Kurt

Rommel in 15 April 1944. I only know Felix Schwalbe 2nd from right. The book says that on the far left is Speidel, but I think he is not????

Jos,

I don't know who the 2 officers are but I've noticed the 2 guns: the front one looks like a 3,7 cm Pak but the second one has the wheels of a 4,5 cm Pak 184(r).
