Hello All

Now I also understand the openings that i found in L 479 and 487 these are for the "airco" ,
for the cardboard I think that they are made of asbestos . Here some photo's and a plan
of the Lufterraum of the L 487 as you can see there were 3 great Lufters with motor .
For the heating of the air I have no clue but here the recooling room is place on the same
place but on a other level .

Photo's L 479 Brias = Dirk Peeters

Asbestos for ventilation channels.. thats pretty mind-boggling.

But thanks. That gives a better clue to how the L487 and probeably the L479 ones worked and looked like. But yeah, every room would have had air blown in from the top via the ventilation channels and then sucked out from the ducts in the floor. The warm "used" air would then probably have been used to heat up the new fresh incomming air together with maybe an electrical heater.

Hi

I have tried to recreate the ventilation system of the L484 i 3D and the below pictures and film is part of the result.
Eny comments are wellcome.

The colors for the ventilation represents the following:
Yellow = Fresh unfiltered air (Zuluft)
Blue = Fresh filtered air
Red = Used air and overpressure valves (Abluftung)
Dark gray = Ventilator
Dark green = Recooling (Rückkühler)

Hi Morten,
This is Sine Qua Non the best piece of draftmanship I have ever seen on AXIS, thanks for sharing. You have way too much sparetime for a person of your age.

Hi guys

Thanks for the comments. I think the model gives a good impression on how the ventilation worked in these speciel bunkers.
There are some questions the model rises and one is that I cannot find a place where a filter would fit in to the main ventilation system. And if the secondary system was operating the main system would probably be off cause I think the secondary system is for when the bunker wasn't operating. But if the main system isn't operating there would be no heat in the bunker. But as we have learnt it could be electrical heating.
And thank you Jos for some of the drawings. Very helpful.

As for the spare time.. well.. I stopped sleeping ;-)

Regards

Hi,
It was the plan during a gas attack simply to shut off all ventilation. The system with the filter was then run every two hours for about 15 min in order to flush out the air, which by now had a too high level of CO2.

not realy a answer, but just to know; in some vf's (same function as the 487) i also found the asbest channels, even in that bunker they had a system like the one in de st types.

Hi Jos,
Thanks for sharing. This also reminds me of the plans for the Fl 314 we discussed recently. This bunker was heated through a system like a normal house with a central heating plant and radiators in all rooms, and I strongly suspect, that this was also the case in "our" L 408A at Grove.

Hello SES

Yes , you are right , we have still a lot to learn about the heating
systems in larger Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe bunker
