Hi All,

I suggest that it might be a German 17cm Medium Trench Mortar, Model 1914. This is only a guess and is based on the similarity to one displayed on Flickr. The source is https://www.flickr.com/photos/sarge_schultz/2352958003/ which shows a photo of this 1914 model minenwerfer taken at Duxford.

Draoich

Hi!
Very interesting, mortar from the museum Duxford differs from mortar 17cm mMW

Hello Karlik

these are 3 different mortars - all are "Mittlere Minenwerfer" but

1. = Museum = Modell 1914
2. = your 1st link = m.M.W. 16 L/4,5
3. = your 2nd link = m.M.W. 16 a/A L/3,8

Ummmhhh......I am not sure about a 17cm caliber mortar.
Note the size of the shells around 15cm of caliber or less..... :?

On the other hand, Is this an 8cm s.Gr.Wfr.34 ?

I enjoyed the history about this mortar. However I have two questions: Was this mortar used by Finland against Russia Next is a technical one: are these legal in the United States in their original condition?

Hi All,
In response to Sturm78's last post on the 5th.' of August, I would guess that the mortars shown are French. They are definitely standard Brandt' model mortars (refer to Sight attachment mortice), both a 60mm in the foreground and several 81mm mortars behind. The ammunition boxes do not seem to be American so that leads me to think that these are French Mle. 27/31's and 60mm Mle. 1935.

In response to gjcm31946, I think you must have intended to post a photo as well?

Hi All,
In response to Sturm78's post No.' 247 on the 30th.' of July, I would guess that the mortar shown is a German 8cm GrW 34. It may be an 10cm NbW 35 but I don't think it is. The mortar bomb being held in the 'Laden' position looks too slim to be a 10cm bomb although this method of gauging the ammunition calibre can be deceptive.
