MKB 4./682 of Cap Cépet
MKB 4./682 of Cap Cépet
Hi all,
I need information about the MKB 4./682 of Cap Cépet (Saint Mandrier). According to the information I could get this battery was equipped with 2 armored turrets with 2 340mm Mle 1912 guns each.
I have several questions:
This battery was built by the French before the war and then reused by the Germans from November 1942 or on the contrary was built by the Germans using two of the turrets of the battleship Provence refloated in July 1943 by the Germans.???
Have anyone any drawings of the arrangement of the battery.
This battery was involved in some fighting in August 1944 against American and French forces. Have anyone information about these battles. Got this battery sink any ship of U.S. or French forces? Was used against ground targets??
An image from Ebay after the battle
Thanks in advance. Sturm78

Some other pictures here:
http://sudwall.superforum.fr/provence-e ... 340-15.htm
I have translated a post from J.J. Moulins (a well recognized French expert on artillery) in this French forum: "the battery never stopped anyone, and particularly not the americans, since it was the French who were in charge of taking Toulon. However, the presence of this battery had an influence on the selection of the landing beaches.
According to http://www.fortiff.be, the construction of the battery with the 340 mm turret guns started in 1928, thus, by the French.

Re: MKB 4./682 of Cap Cépet
Hello Friends
In 1942 the French naval forces sunk not only the fleet at Toulon but also sabotaged the guns at Cap Cepet
The german naval troop try to reused the 34 cm batterie at Cap Cepet , so parts ( barrel ) were used from
the Provence .
From the Friederich turret only one gun could fire during the invasion , the other Casar turret was out of order
on 16-08-1944 during a arial bombardment . So during the actual battle of Toulon only one 34 cm gun could fire .
