Re: Italian coast gun
I am not sure all are the same 381/40 guns.

Re: Italian coast gun
Thanks Dili.
According to wikipedia, there were indeed three types of 381/40: Ansaldo-Schneider, Armstrong-Pozzuoli and Vickers-Terni.
The picture with the breach shows a 381/40 from Vickers-Terni as indicated by the caption. I don't know about the other large guns and barrels.
Two other pictures of these guns in another thread

A close-up. It looks like a railway mounting for 381/40 on the top left!

Thanks, Jos! I thought this picture was taken at Gavres in France like the other two below.jopaerya wrote:Very nice picture's Emmanuel

Re: Italian coast gun
It seems same site. Btw in your second picture, the railway wagon at left with horizontal oval orifice seems to be the structure for the 381/40 AVS
This picture also has the oval orifice.

So the guns went for France or this is Viarreggio?

Re: Italian coast gun
Hello,
The last photographs are not taken in Gâvres, the coast line and village are very different.
I think that it is also the site of Viarregio.
The crane and the great mount have some ressemblance with those of Gâvres in 1930 years but are different.
This ressemblance is not surprising because in 1910-1919 years, Ansaldo and Schneider had a strong partnership.
So, the 9 first guns of 381 mm of Italian Navy were build in Schneider Works in Le Creusot in 1914 and 1915.
The first 381 mm gun is tried at Harfleur (near Le Havre) in juni 1914 with an italian admiral and italian navy officers. The eight other guns were delivered to Italia in 1914 and 1915.
Some french officers wanted the 381 italian guns were to be requisitionned for the front but french government ordered in 1914 that these guns were finished and delivered to Italie regarded as a future allies against Austria and Germany.
Yours sincerely,
Guy François.

Re: Italian coast gun
Yes, it is definitely the same site and the same guns. What I wanted to say is that I thought that Jos' ebay picture and the two US Signal Corps I have added had been taken at Gavres (according to a French forum).Dili wrote:It seems same site.
Thank you, Guy, for your great information.

Re: Italian coast gun
Seems a I World War picture.
Re: Italian coast gun
Said to be Augusta-Siracusa 1941, so this should be 1 of the 2 cannone da 203/50 of batteria Luigi di Savoia
Re: Italian coast gun
Could this be a Cannone da 75/46 C.A. modello 40 ??
Picture = Ebay

Re: Italian coast gun
I don't have good pictures to show the difference between mod 34 and 40. The logic here dictates that it is probably a mod 40.
