Post by hucks216 » 15 Aug 2010, 12:02

Hello all,
Can anyone tell me what guns the following 2 Eisenbahn Artillery units had please:
Lehr-und-Ers Abt fur Eisenbahn Artillerie (mot.) 100 (Oct 1941 to Sept 1942)
Eisenbahn Artillerie Abt (E) 640 (Sept 1942 to May 1945)

I have a wehrpass to a member of these two units.

Hello Hucks216,

Lehr-und-Ers Abt fur Eisenbahn Artillerie (mot.) 100 (Oct 1941 to Sept 1942) were stationing in Rugenwalde(Darłowo)/Ostsee.
It was training unit of railgun units. From photos of this unit I've seen can tell that Bruno and K5 guns were used for training. Barracks of this units still exists, some time ago were photos on Ebay with units emblem attached to on of the building.
Eisenbahn Artillerie Abt (E) 640 (Sept 1942 to May 1945) - need to dig deeper, mayby other forum members can help You.

Thanks for the information guys. The details for Eisenbahn-Art-Abt 640 tally with the campaign entries in the Wehrpass as they mention Leningrad & Oranienbaum in late 1942 and then from late 1942 to 1944 it mentions the Mediterranean coast and also Rhone before the entries for 1945 mention the bridgehead battle at Remagen in March amongst others.

Eisenbahn-Art-Abt 640 was actually a "Stab" i.e. a HQ. It did not have its own guns but would have E-batteries placed under it.

Thanks for that piece of information. Would such a HQ be responsible for just one battery or would it of taken all the batteries within a specific area under its command?
